For those looking for cut and dry (but interesting!) information about starting a career as a pilot or those who like me, are going to switch careers, I just found a very informative site. Bookmark it as there is a ton of information!

Hey geek. I wanted to ask you a question via E-mail. But i cannot find your E-mail. So i guess ill just ask you here. I am thinking about attending ATP for my training. I would probably do the 150 day fast track because i plan on doing it right after i get out of high school. My question is. Do you think this is worth the money? I really want to become an airline pilot so any advise is much appriceated thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhile applying to colleges, this website is very helpful. I'm seriously considering Embry-Riddle and getting my Bachelors in Aeronautical Engineering while learning to fly on the side. I just can't get enough of planes. Is there anything that you regret concerning career choices? I know you worked with computers for a while but do you wish you had chosen differently in any way?
ReplyDeleteJeremy36 - It's worth the money IF you can afford it meaning have a backup plan and a support system. I was only able to afford ATP because I had money saved (I changed careers) and am married to a woman who makes enough to support both of us. If you are fresh out of high school I would get a "real" job, save up and revisit this in a few years. I have more than a few friends who are 20 years old, furloughed/unemployed and owe $60K+ in flight school loans.
ReplyDeleteChas11man - I have never heard anything good about getting a degree in the aviation field as a backup. Reason being...if the airlines are hurting and you get furloughed....getting a job somewhere else in aviation isn't likely.
ReplyDeleteI double majored in Photojournalism and Sociology...of course I worked in the IT industry for 7 years....which I agree is odd. If I could go back I would have majored in Computer Science (although I do not know how I would get through the Math). Flying is a passion, but don't let that passion steer you toward a life of regret.
well the flight is the first choice and the engineering is the backup. at embry-riddle they call it flight option and you can do it with any degree. I agree that my wording was probably a little off. Do you think that embry-riddle would give me any advantages in a pilot career?
